What is a content driven website?

The Internet has exploded. There are hundreds of thousands of websites out there, so the competition is tough. With so many sites online, you need to make an impact! You need to hook your audience, and keep them hooked! Give them a reason to return.

Fancy design work and animations are all very well, but the novelty wears off quickly. The most successful websites, the ones that get the most traffic, are those that are content driven and that provide useful information.

What is a content driven website I hear you ask…?
Content driven sites are those websites that are themed around a specific topic and display content that is fresh, original and that is keyword rich. These sites are regularly updated to give existing visitors a reason to return, and to attract new ones. These websites contain useful, informative content, and are usually found as the result of a search through one of the various search engines.

Search engines favour websites that are driven by content as they provide answers to searches carried out by Internet users.

These websites contain copy that is keyword rich, and as a result the sites are ranked highly by search engines, producing an increase in traffic.

A website had two main functions:

  1. To increase traffic – to attract more new visitors to the site, and to keep existing ones coming back
  2. To increase the conversion rate  – to convert website visits into desired actions i.e. sales.

Before a website can generate any income it has to have traffic. The way to drive traffic to your site is through your content.

Give your visitors a reason to keep reading, and to keep coming back. Update regularly, be original and be interesting.

Wow, that is very encouraging :) and thank you for such a compliment.

Sadly, we are a small team runnning a growing branding agency, and a lot of our energies are consumed in client interface, pitching and servicing our clients so our blog tends to get a bit neglected sometimes….We started it as an information sharing platform because we love to talk to other like-minded people, however, we tend to get overwhelmed and as much as we could do with more staff to man the blog, we haven’t ever considered raising funds for it to actually grow it’s impact…..your suggestion is very well taken and we will consider our options.

What other suggestions do have for us on how we keep the wheels on this blog turning and turning faster?

      What are your interestes?

  2. Hi there would you mind stating which blog platform
you’re working with? I’m planning to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a difficult time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique. P.S Sorry for getting off-topic but I had to ask!

      Hi Internet Marketing Google,

Sorry for the late response, we are using Word Press.
I will ask my technical partner to give you recommendations on how to differentiate your postings, something that i’m only familiarizing myself with now.

First of all, I suggest you can simubt to any free directory you can find. I usually type into Google something like Add url to multiple search directories and get a ton of pages that will add your link to chunks of search engines at the same time. The reality here is that you want to be found in as many places as possible. Then when it comes to placing into good directories, pick and choose those relevant to your content. Being that you have a movie news and joke site, try finding advertising space on popular movie cinema sites like cinemaclock.com, the site for famous players, maybe some other smaller less known movie theaters, or even see if you can land a spot in a movie and entertainment magazine. On the flip side, you could also put advertisements and into joke directories, comedy clubs etc. As long as it is relevant to your content and looks professional, you shouldn’t get too many people saying you are spamming. Do it with style and taste then be patient. It takes awhile to build up traffic and a loyal customer base.Hope these tips help!

That’s true Gabriel, but for me I think bloggers must first find the importance of just writing for the pleasure of it, information sharing and conversation before they start obsessing with advertising, rankings or SEO. The most important thing for us [bloggers] to realise about the blogosphere is that we have a powerful platform to facilitate dialogue, sharing of ideas and continuous learning. I believe that once we get talking and sharing information and ideas, we become better people, individuals and contributors of real value to the world in general…..with that will come rankings, authority and all the aspirational stuff.

so in conclusion, our objectives should be on information sharing before the returns.

As an African I strive just to tap into best practise and high world-class standards…So I seek opportunity to share ideas and learn. We [Frontline Studio] realise that this is the culture that built Europe in the 14th century, the dessemination of ideas, technology and doctrine. Imagine, with the invention of the printing press in Mainz,Germany, bits and pieces of written information -more precious than gold- began to make their way accross the continent and the world and information began to grow and the era of the Renaissance was ushered in…..This is where we are today with blogs, posts and write-ups but now we are in the age of information on steriods and not on horse-back lol….

Look forward to sharing a lot more
